A message from Michael Schostak

The results are in, and I am disappointed that I won’t have the opportunity to serve the University of Michigan as a Regent. I congratulate Paul Brown and Amir Makled on their election, and I thank the voters across Michigan who entrusted me with their vote.

I entered this race because of the alarming rise of antisemitism and divisiveness on the U-M campus. I believe the university can and should do more to ensure that all students, regardless of ethnicity, religion or political views, are able to learn, express themselves and feel safe without fear of harassment, intimidation, retaliation or discrimination.

I also believe a U-M education should be more affordable and more accessible to Michigan’s high school graduates.

I will continue to advocate on these issues and to be a voice for students, faculty, staff, clinicians and patients, and for the taxpayers of Michigan.

I am especially grateful to the many friends, supporters, volunteers, donors and family members who so generously gave of their time, energy and resources to this campaign. Your encouragement and confidence in me made this journey enjoyable and worthwhile.

This chapter didn’t end the way we had all hoped, but my commitment to the University of Michigan is unwavering. Bo said it best:

“Those who stay will be champions.”

I’m staying.

Go Blue!
